Author Monica Crowley new book has an interesting title ?What the (bleep) just happened?. ?Borrowing Ms. Crowley?s book title the question I like to raise is: what the (bleep) happened to our immigration laws? I am referring specifically to those laws that govern the legal process that is in place for people wanting to come to America.
U.S. legislators passed the immigration laws many years ago mainly to safeguard the health and safety of all residents already in the U.S. and to assure that no individual is admitted who believe in overthrowing our system of government. ?I came to the above conclusion from my own family experience. ?My aunt Nancy Valente moved to Brooklyn, NY in the 20s shortly after she applied to have my father move to the U.S. ?His chance came in 1956. Since my family was numerous (10 children) the U.S. gave him the choice to immigrate if he would to take only four children to start with. Once he agreed to immigrate under those conditions the immigration process started. ?The closest American consulate was in Naples, Italy 265 miles north of my hometown. ?They went there to have a complete physical to assure they were healthy and free of any communicable diseases. ?They also had to fill out a form stating that they were not communists and they would respect the Laws of the U.S. An oath of affirmation followed. ?After two long years (for a child wanting his father), my mother and three of her young children (I was one of the three) went through the same process. ?During that period, the U.S. only accepted individuals that were younger than twenty four years. Unfortunately three of my older sisters were not allowed to immigrate because of their age.
Did my father complain about leaving his wife and three of their young children behind including his only son? He did not like it but he understood and accepted the fact that the American people needed to be safeguarded and rightfully so.
I am sure that there are plenty of similar stories from other legal immigrants that came over through the legal process who had to go through a medical checkup and a personal background check. ?If immigration was strictly enforced then to protect the health and welfare of the residents of the U.S. why the American people should not be protected today?
What is wrong with making sure that no criminal or anyone who might carry communicable diseases enters the U.S. illegally? ?Illegal immigration is not a republican or democrat issue because presidents of both parties have deported in mass illegal aliens. ?In the thirties the Mexican repatriation program took place which started under republican President Herbert Hoover and continued under democratic President Franklin Roosevelt. Democratic President Harry Truman deported over two million illegals after WWII. President Dwight D. ?Ike? Eisenhower implemented Operation Wetback in 1954. ?Truman and Eisenhower intent was to create jobs for returning veterans of World War II and the Korean War. ?We have a high number of unemployed Americans today why not, as a minimum, stop the flow of illegals and resolve the problem of those already here. Doesn?t the health and safety of all legal residents? counts? ?How many American citizens and permanent (legal) immigrants have paid the ultimate price or have been scarred for the rest of their lives because of illegal aliens? ?The following web site?http://www.immigrationshumanco
Something is also terribly wrong when our own federal government sues a member State of the Union instead of going after the illegals (Washington Post: Justice Department sues Arizona over immigration Law, July 7, 2010). Article I Section 8 of the United States Constitution clearly empowers Congress ?to provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the Union suppress insurrections and repel invasions.? When thousands of individuals cross the U.S. borders without permission, I call it an invasion and when the laws of the Union are not executed, I call it dereliction of duty.
Article II Section 2 of the US Constitution states: ?The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States?; as the commander in chief the president has the responsibility to protect our borders; however it appears that the Obama administration intention is not to execute the immigration laws. Why President Barack Obama is not interested in protecting our borders and enforcing the immigration laws? ?On May 20, 2011 then candidate Obama stated: ?we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.? Is one of the changes that he promised to have an open border policy? Doesn?t he realize of the negative consequences of not regulating immigration? ?As I stated earlier there is enough evidence of permanent residents that have been physically hurt. ? What about the impact on the economy, our health care system? The American people need an honest response to these questions. ?The illegal immigration must stop immediately because I fear that the future of the United States of America and consequently of our sons and daughters are at a stake.
