FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) ? Deutsche Bank said earnings fell 46 percent in the second quarter as the eurozone debt crisis hurt investment banking activity and revenue from trading securities.
Germany's largest bank said Tuesday that income fell at its investment banking division as fewer client companies came to the bank for its services helping them issue shares.
It also said that revenue from trading debt securities ? one of the investment categories most affected by the crisis ? was down. The company said that was partly due to the company taking "deliberately lower levels of risk" due to subdued trading volumes.
Net earnings fell to ?661 million from ?1.233 billion in the same three months a year ago.
Revenues were down 6 percent to ?8.0 billion. A major hit to revenue came at the corporate banking and securities division, where share underwriting and debt trading are located, falling by ?451 million to ?3.5 billion.
The earnings statement Tuesday was the first reported under new co-CEOs Anshu Jain and Juergen Fitschen, who took over from Josef Ackermann in May.
"The European sovereign debt crisis continues to weigh on investor confidence and client activity across the bank," it said.
European governments such as Spain and Italy are struggling with high levels of debt, and the prospect they might default or need bailouts has unnerved markets.

We are back with another "What we learned after watching all 10 seasons of FRIENDS post!".?
So we all know how awesome this show is. Jenn and I shared some of our favorite moments that had to do with friendship. Now we want to talk about the good stuff. Love and relationships, you will get to hear Jenn?s thoughts later in the week! So read on to find out what Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe and Joey (and hey even Gunther) have taught us about Love and how our relationship changed because of it?
1) Always go the extra mile, or 1,350 (I Googled it). That?s the approximate driving distance from The Big Apple to the booming city of Tulsa Oklahoma, home of the well-known eateries Slim Pickins and So Cheesy.
After Chandler unwittingly agrees to head the Tusla branch for his company a lot of extra pressure is put on his relationship with Monica, as is to be expected. He tries to get out of it but is unable to do so. Him and Monica are left with no options but to just make it work. Monica makes an extremely selfless decision to give up her restaurant and find work in Tulsa, but ultimately a new offer for her dream job is too good to pass up, and Chandler wouldn?t let her. He knows how important the opportunity is for Monica. Living apart is obviously out of the option, so Chandler finds a way to work out his schedule so that he only has to be in Tulsa about half of the week, and decides to fly back and forth so they can still be together as much as possible.? Time goes by, and everything is ok, but it is still difficult. Monica then decides she will make a trip to Tulsa and surprise Chandler, in an attempt to add some spice to their tough arrangement, but what ensues is a whole other can-o-worms. What really matters is that she made the effort and he was willing to make the long commute and put in the long hours to see her more often.This type of self-sacrifice and extra effort is so so so important to any relationship, new and old. It can be just as important to a stale relationship, a thriving relationship, or one that is in desparate need of a last ditch effort to save the relationship. It is fundamental. Everyone wants to know they are cared for and that nothing will get in the way of showing (not just saying) I love you and you are my world. I must admit, Jenn is much better at this than I am, she is so selfless and so giving, and sets a great example for me to live up to.
2) So, I don?t believe in ?soul mates? in that there every individual has 1 person whom they are destined to be with. But I do believe that people can be just about perfect for each other, and some people are more just about perfect for us than others (Kinda like those pesky pieces in large puzzles that seem to fit somewhere, only to discover days and days later that they fit better somewhere else!). That being said, Jenn and I are soul mates. ?You?re a hypocrite, blah blah blah?. I know, I don?t care, so what, lets move on!
Now where was I? Oh right, puzzle pieces perfect fit. The best example of this that I have ever been able to think of, Friends or no Friends, is Pheobe and David then forget about David, Mike is way better. If you are not sure what I am talking about, you can start by looking back on the last friends post (I may have thrown around the soul mate thing there too, just ignore that I didn?t mean it literally and as we have established, card carrying member of the hypocrite club right here). In that post I talked about how Phoebe meets mike and how great they end up being for one another, but there is more to the story than that. Before there was mike there was David. David was the Edward Cullen to Phoebe?s Bella Swan, but without the stone hard and stone cold abs that Mrs. Meyer can?t stop writing about. Phoebe and David was the couple that was supposed to be together but David?s career took him to Minsk, Belarus. He makes a few more appearances, each time Phoebe realizes how much she loves David and that all she wants is for David to stay and for them to get married, but that is not to be. Then, Mike happens. Now she realizes, here is this guy, this other guy, who is so amazing maybe it isn?t as clear cut as I thought things were. Ultimately, after battling with herself, and a couple ?maybe it is still David? moments, Mike wins for good, and Phoebe Buffay becomes Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan. Well, first it becomes Princess Consuela Bananahammock, but then Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan.I was supposed to do three, but these are long and I don?t want to bore anybody, after all you are here to read what Jenn has to say, not me.?

There is so much I could tell you about relationships, FRIENDS has little hidden messages in their shows and besides laughing hysterically for ten strait seasons, I also learned a lot! There were so many different relationships, there was the never ending cycle of Rachel and Ross, there was Monica and Chandler, Phoebe and Mike, Ross and his student, Ross and a lesbian, Ross and Emily, Ross and.... you get the point there were MANY relationships throughout the show (especially when it comes to Ross). Lots of relationships meant lots of observing how each worked or didn't work.?
1) Patience...patience...and more patience.?
Ever notice how crazy Monica is? She has things that have to be a particular way, the apartment has to be cleaned spotless and organized a certain way, and she?doesn't?really do well with any amount of change. Chandler does great with dealing with Monica, he doesn't get mad when she has to do certain things her way, he realizes that her crazy need to clean and organize is part of her, and he doesn't force her to change. Remember the episode where Chandler moves in and decides he is going to surprise Monica and clean the entire apartment, but then he moves all the furniture and decor...well he forgets where it all goes, but he does everything he can to get it back to perfect for her. He doesn't complain. He doesn't get mad when she gets home and moves things back, he just lets her be her.?
2) It's about the two of you. About what you want out of the relationship. About what is doing the best for the two of you.?
Monica and Chandler bought a house in secret. They were afraid of telling everyone that they planed on moving outside of the city. Well they had good reason for keeping it a secret, because once Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, and Joey found out, well they were angry! They did everything they could to change their minds. However Chandler and Monica knew what would be best for them and their future family, it didn't matter how much the others tried to change their mind, they decided to do what was best for them.?
If you want your relationship to grow and be strong, you need to focus on what is the best for the two of you. Of course your family and friends are going to want to give you their advice but at the end of the day it is the two of you going home?together?and starting a life?together, it has to be what is best for you two.?
3) Be careful when you take food off of the others plate.?
Aaron and I share a lot of things, but there are?definitely?certain things I keep to myself, like the litte Dove chocolates I hide in the house! I am really good at sharing, but sometimes I want a little something to myself. Now sharing is important in a?relationship, but in my mind it's certainly okay not to share every little thing. Joey shows us what happens when you try and take food from him, "Joey doesn't share food!" He goes on a date and his date takes food from his plate, well he gets really angry and decides it wont work out. So the next time he goes on a date he orders extra food for them to share and then his own meal, well this also backfires in his face because she still wants some of the food he ordered from himself. Now Joey shows us that not sharing can hurt the?relationship, and I agree, you should want to share with the other, but also indulge yourself with little?things?just for you!

LONDON (AP) ? The hiccups outnumbered the highlights, and for a while the U.S. racked up fouls faster than points.

However, it was enough ? easily enough.
Kevin Durant scored 22 points in his Olympic debut, Kevin Love added 14 and LeBron James had eight assists as the American men's basketball team overcame some sloppy moments with a 98-71 win Sunday over France.
"We know everybody else expects us to win by 40 points," said Carmelo Anthony. "For us, a win's a win. We expect every game to be like this one."
Seeking a second straight gold medal to match the redemptive one they captured in Beijing four years ago, the Americans expected a tough test from a French team featuring San Antonio guard Tony Parker and five other NBA players. And although the U.S. was never in real trouble ? it only led 22-21 after one quarter ? there were enough flaws (14 turnovers, 26 fouls) to keep coach Mike Krzyzewski and his staff busy and this superstar-laden squad from feeling too comfortable.
"It wasn't perfect," said James, who only took six shots while setting up his teammates. "We've still got room for improvement. We had too many turnovers, too many fouls and we had a couple of defensive rebounds we could have come up with. But overall, we played a pretty good game for as close to 40 minutes as possible."
Kobe Bryant had said this team could beat the 1992 Dream Team that changed international hoops forever at the Barcelona Games. That matchup is mythical, but the London Games aren't and this U.S. team will have to play much better in upcoming games if it plans to maintain American dominance.
"We know we have to keep going for 40 minutes and play hard," said Bryant, who only played 12 minutes.
Afterward, Parker, who nearly missed these games after undergoing surgery for a freak eye injury, didn't want to concede anything to the Americans. But when asked if the U.S. team can be beat, he took a contemplative pause before responding.
"They're going to be very, very tough to beat," Parker said.
At times, the Americans' offense was erratic. The U.S missed its first six 3-pointers and settled too quickly for jump shots instead of driving to the basket. But France wasn't able to capitalize as the U.S. turned up its pressure on defense and forced 18 turnovers.
With first lady Michelle Obama on hand to cheer on the U.S., Durant, Anthony and Tyson Chandler added nine rebounds apiece for the Americans, who will next play Tuesday against Tunisia, beaten 60-56 by Nigeria in the tournament opener.
As they left the floor, the U.S. players stopped to hug Mrs. Obama, who can report back to her commander in chief husband that his favorite team has taken its first step toward gold.

But James opened the second quarter with a 3, the U.S. quickly went on an 11-0 run and by midway through the third, Bryant and Co. restored order.
As the U.S. reserves scored on dunk after dunk in the fourth, James and Bryant lounged on the bench.
They know there will be tougher games ahead.
The first one, though, was over.
"We knew this game wasn't going to be easy," Durant said. "We know even if we don't start well we can finish."

Although currently based out of Somerville, Massachusetts, Pownall began his career as a staff photographer for the Chicago Tribune. His first three assignments were Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. He even photographed the 1968 rioting at the Chicago Democratic Convention. When Pownall moved to Boston, he became the New England assignment photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine. He worked for other magazines, as well as for Columbia, Epic, WEA and Capitol records companies. Aerosmith, Boston, The Cars, Meatloaf, J Geils Band, Queen and Liza Minelli, were among his band clients.

Turkey vows to take every measure against PKK in Syria
Turkey said Sunday it would do everything it could to prevent "terrorist" formations near its border with Syria that would threaten its national security.
"We will not allow the formation of a terrorist structuring near our border," Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told Turkish television channel Kanal 7.
"We reserve every right ... No matter if it is Al-Qaeda or PKK we would consider it a matter of national security and take every measure," said Davutoglu, without providing specifics about what measures Ankara might take.
Davutoglu's comments came after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Syria of allowing Kurdish rebels a free hand in the north of the conflict-torn country and warned that Ankara would not hesitate to strike.
Turkish newspapers have published with alarm pictures of Kurdish flags flying from buildings in northern Syria and reported that parts of the region had fallen into the hands of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), or its Syrian branch, the Democratic Union Party (PYD)
The foreign minister said some media reports wrongly suggested the entire north of Syria had fallen to the PKK.
"This is not the case," said Davutoglu. But he went on: "I cannot say there is no risk. Even if there is a one percent risk, we would take it seriously for the future of this country."
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organisation by Turkey and by much of the international community, took up arms in Kurdish-majority southeastern Turkey in 1984, sparking a conflict that has claimed some 45,000 lives.
Relations between Turkey and Syria have deteriorated since the start of the uprising against Assad's rule in Syria in March 2011, with Ankara vehemently criticising the regime's brutal crackdown against dissent.

Cardinals' power show takes care of?Cubs

CHICAGO (AP) - The Cards almost had five of a kind.
Matt Holliday, Yadier Molina and Lance Berkman started a power show by the St. Louis Cardinals, who became the first team in eight years to hit a home run in each of the first five innings and went on to beat the Chicago Cubs 9-6 Friday.
Matt Carpenter and Allen Craig also connected off Travis Wood (4-6), whose five homers allowed matched the Cubs record.
Molina hit a two-run homer in the second, with the rest solo shots.
"The flags were blowing in, but the ball was still carrying," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "There were just a lot of hard hit balls. "Whenever you can mix five home runs in five innings, that's pretty impressive."
Carpenter put St. Louis ahead 7-6 when he homered on the first pitch of the fourth, and Craig homered into the left-field bleachers in the fifth. The previous team to homer in each of the first five innings was Houston against Colorado on Oct. 2, 2004, according to STATS LLC.
"All those balls were crushed," Holliday said. "None of those were cheap home runs. If the wind was blowing out, those would have been a lot more impressive."
Lance Lynn (13-4) tied New York's R.A. Dickey and Washington's Gio Gonzalez for the NL lead in wins despite allowing six runs and eight hits in five innings. Jason Motte completed four shutout innings for the Cardinals' bullpen, getting three outs for his 23rd save in 27 chances as St. Louis won for the seventh time in eight games.
"The offense carried me, and the bullpen came in and did what they do," Lynn said. "It was one of those days - a team win."
Lynn allowed one run in 19 innings during his first three July starts, but the Cubs' first three batters scored. Lynn also gave up three runs in the third as the Cubs rallied to tie 6-6 and ended a streak of 21 straight games in which the St. Louis starter pitched at least six innings - the club's longest stretch since 2004.
"It was hit or miss it seems like," said Lynn, who threw six scoreless innings in his previous start. "The time before I was able to make pitches and get out of innings with runners on. Today when they got the runner on they scored."
Rookie Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer for the Cubs, his sixth in 25 games since he was brought up from Triple-A Iowa.
"It's a good feeling to be in that kind of mindset at the plate," Rizzo said. "I just want to stick to it right now and keep going."
Berkman's third-inning homer gave him 1,200 career RBIs and was just his second home run this season. Berkman has reached base in 37 straight games dating to last July 31, the longest streak in the majors, but he has missed 68 games this year because of lower body injuries.
Holliday's solo homer in the first landed just to the left of the camera booth in center field. He added an RBI single in the seventh and singled in the ninth, leaving him with a .434 average, eight homers and 31 RBIs over his last 34 games. He's homered five times in 12 games against the Cubs this season.
Starlin Castro had three hits for the Cubs, including an RBI single in the first and a leadoff triple to center in the third.
Rizzo added an RBI single in the third and scored on Alfonso Soriano's double into the left-field corner, tying the game at 6-all. Rizzo's 28 hits in July are the most among NL rookies.
Wood gave up eight runs and seven hits in five innings and has allowed 22 earned runs in 15 2-3 innings since the All-Star break.
"He does have to keep the ball down," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "You're going to get away with that a little more against some other teams. This team, there's a reason why those left-handed numbers are what they are. If you make a mistake, they don't miss them."
The prior Cubs starter to give up five homers in a game was Carlos Zambrano, in his final start for Chicago last Aug. 12.
"Things didn't go as planned," Wood said. "I missed some pitches, and they didn't miss the pitches that I missed."
Chicago put two runners on in the eighth, bringing the potential tying run to the plate with one out, but Reed Johnson and Geovany Soto hit long flyouts off Marc Rzepczynski.
"I was real happy and impressed with the bullpen," Matheny said.

Pakistan suspends NATO supply route over security - Pakistan Today
- Forces launch search operation in hills surrounding Jamrud to flush out militants
PESHAWAR?-?Pakistan has temporarily stopped NATO supply trucks crossing its northwestern border into Afghanistan over security concerns due to fears of militant attacks, officials said on Thursday.
Gunmen on Tuesday attacked a convoy of NATO supply trucks, killing a driver, in the town of Jamrud near the main northwestern city of Peshawar, in the first such attack since Pakistan lifted a seven-month blockade of the border.
?Movement of NATO vehicles has been temporarily suspended since Wednesday evening to beef up security,? a paramilitary official told AFP.
?We have launched a search operation in the hills surrounding Jamrud,? the official added. On Wednesday, officials at the northwestern Torkham crossing had said traffic was picking up for the first time since the blockade ended, with more than 100 vehicles crossing in recent days.
But local administration official Bakhtiar Khan confirmed on Thursday that the supply route had been suspended due to ?security reasons?.
?Intelligence officials have informed the authority that attacks may occur on NATO vehicles this week and in the light of this a security plan is being chalked out,? Khan told AFP.
He said the NATO route would ?resume very soon?, but until then trucks carrying supplies for the 130,000-strong US-led mission in Afghanistan had been told not to approach the border.
?We have been told by authorities to wait here as they are building up security after the firing incident,? Amanullah Khan, a NATO truck driver, told AFP in Peshawar. So far, the closure has only affected the Torkham crossing.
At the southwestern crossing of Chaman, some 17 trucks were awaiting clearance to enter Afghanistan and 20 other trucks were parked in Quetta, clearing agent Ashraf Khan told AFP.
Islamabad closed its land routes to NATO convoys after US air strikes killed 24 Pakistani soldiers on November 26, but reopened them after Washington said sorry for the deaths.
Before the blockade, around 150 trucks crossed into Afghanistan each day at Torkham ? the closest border crossing to Kabul ? and officials say the flow will rise to up to 300 a day.
But three weeks after the blockade ended, trucks and containers are still holed up at the Arabian Sea port of Karachi, where NATO goods are unloaded for the overland route.
Workers are waiting for security guarantees and compensation for the last seven months, said Rana Mohammad Aslam, vice president of the All Pakistan Goods Carriers Association.
?Not a single truck has left town so far because of the payment issues with the subcontractors and the government?s failure to devise a plan to provide adequate security to the trucks,? he said.
He told AFP that Tuesday?s killing had ?spread more fear among truck owners and their employees?.
An official at the ports and shipping ministry told AFP on the condition of anonymity that not a single container had left the port, pending customs clearance and the payment of damages.

LONDON (AP) ? Britain's government says its armed forces operated U.S. drones over Libya last year in support of the NATO mission there.
While the American use of drones in Libya was previously known ? a U.S. Predator drone took part in the airstrike that hit a convoy carrying ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi ? British officials had insisted that no U.K. drones were involved there or have been used outside of Afghanistan.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Defense said that was still the case, but confirmed that Royal Air Force personnel embedded within a U.S. unit had operated "armed Remotely Piloted Air Systems missions" against Gadhafi's forces in Libya in 2011.
U.K. armed forces routinely embed within units of allied nations ? and vice versa ? through exchange programs.

Police: Cal Ripken's mom abducted, now safe
ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) ? Cal Ripken Jr.'s 74-year-old mother was found with her hands bound in the back seat of her car Wednesday after being kidnapped at gunpoint a day earlier at her home outside Baltimore and driven around blindfolded by her abductor, police and neighbors said.
Investigators do not know the kidnapper's motive and there was no ransom demand for Vi Ripken's release, Aberdeen Police Chief Henry Trabert said at a news conference.
The gunman forced Ripken into her silver Lincoln Continental between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday, police said. She was found unharmed but shaken about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday near her home in Aberdeen, about 30 miles northeast of Baltimore.
When asked if police believe the kidnapper knew who he was abducting, Trabert did not answer, saying police don't know the motive or if the suspect any ties to the Ripken family.
"This case is still brand new," Trabert said.
Hall of Fame infielder Cal Ripken Jr. earned the nickname "Iron Man" for playing in 2,632 consecutive games during his 21-year career with the Baltimore before voluntarily ending the streak in 1998.
Next-door neighbor Gus Kowalewski said he spoke with Vi Ripken later Wednesday morning. The 72-year-old retired autoworker said Ripken told him the gunman tied her hands and put a blindfold on her, but said he wouldn't hurt her.
"He lit cigarettes for her, they stopped for food," Kowalewski said. "He said, 'I'm not going to hurt you. I'm going to take you back,' and that's what he did."
Kowalewski said Ripken told him the gunman originally planned to put tape over her eyes.
"But he didn't do that because she said 'please don't do that 'cause I'm claustrophobic,'" he said.
Instead, the gunman put some type of mask or blinders on her, and she could see somewhat out the sides, he said.
Investigators determined that Ripken was missing Tuesday night after talking to another police department.
"This has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy," the Ripken family said in a statement. "We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support, especially all of the law enforcement agencies that worked so hard and quickly."
Cal Ripken retired in 2001. His brother, Bill, played second base in the major leagues. The two were managed for a time on the Orioles by their father and Vi Ripken's husband, Cal Ripken Sr., who died in 1999.

TBD ? the letters stand for ?To Be Determined? ? was started by Gov. John Hickenlooper as a bottom-up effort to inform and get feedback from citizens across the state about key issues facing Colorado, specifically education, transportation, health care, the state workforce and the state budget.
Today, members of the TBD Advisory Group gathered at the University of Denver?s Ritchie Center to be briefed on the results of 70 community meetings held last April and May and of six regional ?summits? held in June.
Hickenlooper attended today?s session and said the TBD work provides ?a great foundation? for decisions about the state?s future. He noted that although all the issues have been discussed for years in Colorado, ?What we need to try to do is bring fresh perspectives.?
Participants at the May and June meetings voted on 18 proposed policy initiatives, using an instant feedback ?clicker? system to choose one of five options ranging from ?strongly agree? to ?strongly disagree.? Those who attended the June summits were provided additional information about the potential costs or savings associated with each initiative.
The five initiatives that will receive further study were chosen based on those responses, explained Chris Adams of Engaged Public, a policy consulting organization that has been working with TBD.
At the June summits, 98.4 percent of participants strongly agreed or agreed with the idea of improving access to home- and community-based services for the elderly and disabled. The idea is seen by some policymakers as a less costly and higher quality alternative to nursing homes and other residential care facilities.
Some 84.6 percent of participants at the June summits strongly agreed or agreed with improving access to early childhood education.
Other education-related initiatives on the original list of 18, including mandatory physical education, longer school days, linking K-12 funding to school performance and privatizing state colleges and universities, drew significantly less support.
At today?s meeting, advisory group members divided into small groups to discuss that five proposed initiatives. TBD organizers will consider those suggestions and do further analysis from data gathered at the earlier meetings as they prepare their final report.
The advisory panel is something of a who?s who of civic leaders. Among education figures at the session were Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia; former Lt. Gov. Barbara O?Brien; early childhood advocate Anna Jo Haynes; Russ George, Colorado Northwestern Community College president; former state higher education chief David Skaggs; Tony Salazar, executive director of the Colorado Education Association; Denver Public Schools board member Nate Easley; Dick Monfort, University of Northern Colorado trustee and Colorado Rockies owner; former Colorado State University President Al Yates; and businessman and philanthropist Steve Schuck. About 90 people attended the session.
Speaking with reporters after the meeting, Hickenlooper was vague on what happens after TBD finishes its work and gives its report to him and to lawmakers. The future will involve ?continuing the conversation. ? There?s no such thing as too much discussion,? he said.
Asked if the issues raised during the TBD process will require more state funding to solve, Hickenlooper said, ?Part of the process is discussing if we need to do everything? or whether some government spending can be shifted.
TBD Colorado is similar to bottom-up consultative efforts the Hickenlooper administration conducted on economic development and early childhood services. But TBD is being run by an independent non-profit group, not by the governor?s office, and is funded by private donations.
?The nice thing about TBD is I don?t control it,? Hickenlooper said. ?It?s as close to neutral as we could get.?
