Antique Bathroom Accessories Sets

Decorating a bathroom can be a fun adventure, especially when the decorator chooses accessories from the past. Antique bathroom accessories sets are a great way to add an air of elegance and sophistication to a plain bathroom. Even brand new houses can benefit from a burst of vintage style and decorating with antiques is a wonderful way to honor the decade in which an old house was built.

Shopping for Antique Accessories

There are hundreds of flea markets and antique dealers who offer antiques that are a hundred years old or more. These pieces usually have their own unique style that is very different from the modern pieces being designed today. Many decorators choose one or two pieces that fit the vision they have for a particular bathroom and use these pieces to inspire the rest of the accessories they choose to complete the bathroom.

Sometimes a decorator falls in love with a few pieces at the first store they visit, but it is more common for them to visit five or six stores before finding the pieces they are looking for.

Many decorators find an antique piece they love, but have a difficult time finding other pieces that match or compliment the piece they have chosen as a focal point for the room. It is rare that a decorator can find matching bathroom accessories sets at an antique store or flea market, so they may have to search online to find pieces to complete their set. The decorator may end up settling for pieces that capture the essence of their favorite pieces if they cannot locate pieces that are part of the original set.

Colors and Patterns

Bathroom accessories have been around for hundreds of years, so there are thousands of designs for decorators to choose from.

It is a good idea for them to combine pieces from the same era, even if the pieces don't match exactly. Another idea is to combine pieces from several different time periods that have something in common such as the same color or a similar design. It is a good idea to choose sold colored pieces because they are easier to match than pieces with detailed patterns.

A large antique piece is often chosen to become the focal point of the bathroom. A beautiful clawfoot bathtub or elegant pedestal sink is a wonderful piece to design a bathroom around. Most decorators choose vintage drawer pulls and other hardware when they are working with antiques because these pieces are easy to locate. Reproductions of vintage hardware usually looks very similar to the original pieces and most people cannot tell the difference.

Why Choose Antiques

The main reason that a decorator looks for antique bathroom accessories sets and other antique pieces is because of their style and classic feel. Some decorators also lean toward vintage pieces because they tend to be well-made and are likely to stand up to years of regular use. There are so many antiques to choose from that almost anyone can find pieces that suit their style and budget.
